The 8th Batumi Summer University (BSU) 2023 “Nuclear Security and Nonproliferation in Turbulent times: Vision for the Future”

On 22-24 August 2023 Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University will host Batumi 8th Summer University on International Security and Global Nonproliferation. Civil Council on Defense and Security, Tbilisi based think tank is partner of annual event. The programme is supported by Swedish Radiation Safety Authority. The highlight of the this year’s programme is “ Nuclear Security and Nonproliferation in Turbulent Times: Vision for Future.’

Batumi Summer University is a three day intensive course on global security, foreign policy and WMD nonproliferation lead by well-known international and Georgian experts.

The purpose of the Batumi Summer University is to contribute to the capacity building of academia, expert community and students in international relations, international security, nuclear security and  WMD nonproliferation filed. The scope of the Summer University has been widened since its establishment in 2015. This year the leading issues of international relations are in the focus of the course: nuclear security and nonproliferation regime today; Ten-fifteen Lessons for Nuclear Security and the world stemming from the Russian war against Ukraine and the attacks on the Ukrainian Nuclear infrastructure; Georgia’s response to US Sanctions Against Russia; Impact of disinformation to the nuclear field, case of Ukraine; What will the Future bring and how will the Management of Nuclear Weapons and Infrastructure be different this time? EU enlargement issues, and Indo-pacific Security after the Russia’s invasion to Ukraine.

Batumi Summer University is implemented in the framework of the project: Strengthening  nuclear security and nonproliferation education and research capacities in Georgia.
