On June 23-27, at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, the George Washington University Deputy Rector for Research, Sylvia Ezekilova, conducted seminars for BSU academic and administrative staff. The seminars covered such important issues as: forming the structure of the university's research administration; determining scientific priorities; drawing up a grant application, budgeting, logistics, determining funding sources, financial management and administration; expanding scientific cooperation; promoting the successful activities of the Scientific Administration Office.
It is worth noting that BSU has been cooperating with American councils for many years. In 2024, the university was involved in seminars organized by NCURA (The National Council of University Research Administrators), where the specifics and practices of the US grant funding system were discussed. In the same year, BSU representatives paid a working visit to the USA, where they visited leading universities and scientific foundations. It was as a result of this visit that Silvia Ezekilova’s visit to Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University was planned.
The seminars were held within the framework of the second phase of the University Capacity Building Program (UCBP), a project funded by the US Department of State and the US Embassy in Georgia, and coordinated by the American Councils for International Education’s Georgia office.
