BSU Delegation’s Visit to Tokyo Metropolitan University

On December 12, as part of a working visit to Tokyo, the capital of Japan, the Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Tite Aroshidze, together with members of the delegation, met with the President of Tokyo Metropolitan University, Professor Takaya Ohashi, and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, expert in Georgian Studies Hirotake Maeda.

The delegation included David Batsikadze, Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara; Merab Diasamidze, Head of the BSU Administration; and Lasha Bolkvadze, a Japanese language teacher at BSU. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Japan, Teimuraz Lezhava.

The parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, the foundations of which had been laid earlier in the city of Batumi. The memorandum aims to deepen cooperation between Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Tokyo Metropolitan University. Members of the delegation toured the university’s infrastructure and research laboratories. As part of the visit, a cultural event was held with the participation of students from Tokyo Metropolitan University and BSU. During the event, the BSU band performed several musical pieces, including a Japanese song.

The working meeting continued with Professor and the expert of Georgian Studies Hirotake Maeda, during which specific areas of cooperation were discussed. It was agreed to facilitate the participation of BSU students in Tokyo Metropolitan University’s summer school, as well as to organize joint conferences, projects, and academic events.
