
The first international seasonal school of simultaneous interpretation was opened by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The aim of the seasonal school is to develop practical skills in the direction of simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, share international experience and strengthen educational and academic opportunities in the field.
The seasonal school is held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the State Language Department and the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Georgia.
Students from various higher educational institutions of Georgia, students from Recep Tayyip Erdogan University of the Republic of Turkey, as well as working translators from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Georgia participate in the five-day seasonal school.
The study process will be led by the Head of the Center for Translation and Interdisciplinary Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Associate Professor Khatuna Beridze and Specialist, Doctor of Philology Tamta Nagervadze, BSU University sectoral translation specialists: Professor Tamar Siradze, Assistant Professor Maia Bolkvadze, Sinologist, Professor of the Free University Marine Jibladze, Head of the State Language Department Service, Professor of TSU Tinatin Bolkvadze, Lecturer of the Master's Program in Simultaneous Interpreting of the University of Moldova, Doctor of Translation Studies Ina Sitnich, Lecturers of the Recep Tayyip Erdogan University in Turkey, Professor Guli Mukerem Ozturk and Assistant Professor Sopio Makhachashvili.
Simultaneous translation training will be conducted with audio-visual materials and augmented training-conference translation practice. Summer school participants will acquire practical skills in consecutive and simultaneous translation and deepen their knowledge in the field through topical seminars and lectures.
At the opening ceremony of the seasonal school, the guests were welcomed by the rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Tite Aroshidze, the head of the Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Darina Mskhaladze, the chairwoman of the Georgian Association of Translators and Interpreters, writer and translator Manana Dumbadze, and the head of the State Language Department, professor of TSU Tinatin Bolkvadze.
At the opening ceremony the speech was made by Recep Tayyip Erdogan University professor Guli Mukerrem Ozturk, Free University professor, sinologist Marine Jibladze, BSU Deputy Rector Tamar Siradze, and the dean of the Faculty of Humanities Teona Beridze.
The opening ceremony was attended by Nika Memanishvili, Head of the Translation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, who participated in the after-school training sessions.
The International Seasonal School of Simultaneous Interpreting, initiated and organized by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, is an important step in the development of translation education, strengthening international academic cooperation, and creating new opportunities in the field of professional translation. The school will also contribute to the development of the state language and translation activities, and to the strengthening of institutional and international cooperation.
