For the first time, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) hosted an international scientific conference in the field of media and communication studies on the theme “Media Studies in the Era of Communicative Transformation.”
Representatives of media schools operating in Georgia participated in the conference. Professors and academic staff specialising in journalism from the University of Gdańsk and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland), Ankara University (Türkiye), Yerevan State University (Armenia), and Sofia University (Bulgaria) delivered presentations. The conference provided an opportunity to share international academic experience and showcase the research and findings of Georgian media schools.
In the era of communicative transformation, the media is no longer merely a means of transmitting information; it has become an environment in which we live. The scientific conference aimed to explore the specific characteristics of this media ecosystem and brought together a broad range of issues related to contemporary challenges and development trends in the media.
The scientific forum covered such important topics as the specifics of digital transformation and media ecology; disinformation and the “post-truth era”; artificial intelligence in the media; challenges facing traditional media in the context of digital transformation; and the legal and ethical aspects of the media.
The researchers discussed the challenges facing traditional media — newspapers, radio and television — and their integration with digital platforms; the specific characteristics of storytelling on social media; information spaces shaped by algorithms; AI-generated visual and audio manipulations; the importance of fact-checking; the impact of fake news on political and social processes; ethical dilemmas; and media regulation.
The conference was organised by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, co-organised by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (Bulgaria), Yerevan State University (Armenia), and Caucasus International University, and funded by the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
