Fabien Wasserman, the newly appointed Ambassador of Switzerland to Georgia, visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU). The Ambassador was welcomed by Tite Aroshidze, Rector of BSU. During the introductory meeting, the parties discussed the relations between the two countries and explored new opportunities for cooperation. The Rector introduced the Ambassador to the history of the University, recent developments in its educational programmes, and its international cooperation priorities. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of exchange programmes and projects for students and academic staff.
The meeting was attended by Giorgi Katamadze, Vice-Rector of BSU; Teona Beridze, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Tamar Dundua, Head of the International Relations Office; and Ekaterine Kvadze, Media and Communications Officer at the Embassy of Switzerland.
As part of the visit, an exhibition entitled “Stories of Georgian-Swiss Relations” was held at BSU. The exhibition was opened by Tite Aroshidze, Rector of BSU, and Fabien Wasserman, Ambassador of Switzerland to Georgia.
The aim of the exhibition is to introduce the public to the history of the longstanding relations between Georgia and Switzerland, the friendly ties between the two countries, and significant episodes of their cooperation.
The exhibition is based on a work by Salome Chanturidze, a researcher at Tbilisi State University, which was published as a book with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia. The book, entitled “Stories of Georgian-Swiss Relations,” explores the significant ties that have connected the Georgian and Swiss peoples over the centuries, including the activities of Swiss farmers and entrepreneurs in Georgia, the sharing of Swiss expertise, and the stories of Georgian young people who received their education in Switzerland and subsequently played an important role in relations between the two countries.
