III International Summer School in Digital Humanities ‘Specific Problems of Corpuslinguistics and Kartvelology’ has opened in Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, organized jointly by the BSU and Frankfurt Goether University. The Summer School welcomes 100 Georgian and International participants who will work on Georgian National Corpus Development. New generation, interested in innovative approaches will take part in the creation of the digital humanities platform with the guidance of the European and Georgian scientists. BSU Honorary Doctor, Jost Gippert initiated interdisciplinary workshops for the students of Summer School, where European scientists will present their works during ten days. The Summer school envisages tutorials, academic discussions and seminars to further develop corpus linguistics. The Summer School is generously funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Scientific and Volkswagen International Foundations.

Over 50 papers have been presented at the fifth International Conference -‘Batumi – Past and Present’ which was dedicated to the public festival “Batumoba”, celebrating anniversary of the city. Researches from Georgia, US and Turkey came together to discuss cultural and social life of Batumi during the overlapping days in between XIX c and XX c. The panels discussed documented materials concerning Batumi and preserved in the Ottoman Archives. More topics included regional economic policy specifics and leverage for its realization in Batumi, natural resources of Batumi as seen by foreign investors etc. The international conference was organized by Niko Berdzenishvili Research Institute and held with the support of the City Municipality of Batumi.

Sand football Championship among Georgian Universities ended up with the victory of Batumi Shota Rustaveli University’s team. The BSU’s team successfully led the Championship in the sand football involving teams of the accredited HEIs nationwide. The BSUs standings for the team games shows Iliauni 6:5, GTU 6:3, TSU 4:3, TSMU 4:3. The BSUs team won the final played with the GTU with 4:1. Georgian University Sports Federation awarded the team the Students’ CUP, medals and certificates. Batumi Shota Rustaveli University congratulates the team and wishes further success.

The Summer School ‘Research Methods in Material Studies’ ended with the certificates awarded to the participants. The organizers talked about the importance of the summer summing up the event. Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted 40 participants of the school, students of bachelor, master and doctoral studies from various national universities. The six day international summer school offered intensive learning opportunity to the students, outstanding professors of physics from BSU, Ivane Javakhishvili State University, Ilia University, Drezden Technical University, Yerevan State University introduced them to the research know-how of various materials. The methods included experimental, theoretical and computer modeling approaches to the modern and prospective materials, application of their optical, magnetic and magneto-optic qualities in hardware and medicine. The Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Ivane Javakhishvili State University joint summer school grant project for students received National Shota Rustaveli Scientific Foundation’s financing.

Professors from Georgia, Lithuania, UK, Canada, Ukraine, Italy, Iran gathered at the international scientific conference held at the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University to discuss legal problems in the areas of human rights protection, arbitration and education. The papers presented at the conference included ‘Heritage and Development Criteria in the Law’, ‘Georgian Reality about Reciprocity in the Criminal Law’, ‘Academic Ethics in the HEIs: Application of International Relations in the Universities’ Cultural Integration’, “Specifics of the Caucasian Geopolitics in Constructing of New World Order’. The two-days’ conference involved 35 law and policy scholars. The international conference was sponsored by the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and International Institute of Academic Development jointly.
