In 2016, within the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, the Department of Public Health and Evidence-Based Medicine was established under the healthcare direction. Prior to that, it functioned as the Department of Basic Medicine.

The department has been led by Professor Salome Glonti since its establishment.
